Edwin Connell

American (b. 1859)




Born in New York City in 1859, Connell journeyed to Paris, and studied at the Academie Julian with Bougeureau in 1890 as well as with Julien Dupre. He was a member of the Societe Internationale des Beaux-Arts and the American Art Association of Paris. While in France, Connell exhibited his works in the Paris Salon in 1892, and 1896 to 1899. He also exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, with his works winning medals at the 1905 Toulouse Expo, the 1913 Orleans Expo and the 1915 Panama Pacific Expo. Connell was well-known as an animal painter.
