Arthur Conant
American (1889-1966)
An artist living in Cincinnati, Ohio, Conant was a designer at Rookwood Pottery from 1915 through 1939. Rookwood Pottery gained international artistic recognition in 1889, and the company employed many fine artists and encouraged creativity, new techniques and inspiration. Conant is considered to be one of the top ten Rookwood designers, and his creativity and design showed in his painting as well.
Conant and his wife, Patti, who was also a Rookwood decorator, spent summers at Patti’s childhood home on Loon Lake in upstate New York, from the 1930s until the 1960s. The couple traveled throughout New England with the Cincinnati Artist’s Guild, and Conant painted impressionistic landscapes scenes.
