Honore Chapius

French (b. 1817)

Honore Chapuis was born on April 23, 1817, in Arlay, France. He painted genre scenes, portraits, landscapes, and marines. Chapuis studied with French artists Adolphe Brune and Pierre Emile De Grandpre Gigoux. His first exhibition was at the Salon of Paris in 1857. In 1868, he exhibited his work, La chute des feuilles (The Fall of Leaves). Chapuisís paintings can be found at international galleries and museums, including Tete díetude (Study of a Head) from 1859 on display at the Besancon Museum. The town hall of Arlay, where he was born, houses his painting, Une famille fuyant líincendie (A Family Fleeing the Fire), a large composition that he painted in 1884 at Besancon, where he lived till the end of his life.
