Clifford Carleton

American (1867-1946)

Carleton was born in 1867 in Brooklyn, New York and completed his artistic studies at the Arts Student League under H. Siddons Mowbray. Carleton was a prolific painter and illustrator, illustrating for many of the leading magazines of his time, including Life, Harper’s Weekly, Harper’s Bazaar and Scribner’s. He also illustrated several books, including Pembroke by Mary Wilkins, People We Pass by Julian Ralph and Their Wedding Journey by William Dean Howells.
