Anne Carleton
American (1878-1968)
Born in New Hampshire in 1878, artist, inveterate student and teacher Anne Carleton studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Vesper George School of Art, Boston University and at Harvard University under H. H. Clark and Ross. Carleton continued her studies abroad in England and Greece under Powers, Shaw and Rosenbush and upon return to the States, studied extensively with Charles H. Woodbury in Gloucester, Massachusetts and Ogunquit, Maine.
Carleton was a member of the Boston Society of Independent Artists, Art Students League, American Artists Professional League, Copley Society, Massachusetts Art Alumni, Marblehead Art Association and Ogunquit Art Association. Carleton’s work is held in the Louise and Alan Sellars Collection.
