Nestor Cambier
Belgian (1879-1957)
Born in Couillet, Belgium in 1879, Nestor Cambier was known for his portraits, landscapes, and city and interior views. He also worked in stained glass and pastel. Cambier studied at the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, where he was a student of Joseph Stallaert and Gustave Vanaise. Cambier exhibited at the Brussels Salon and the Triennial Salon of Beaux Arts at Brussels.
In 1906 Cambier traveled to the United States where he continued to paint portraits. In 1907 he exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and won the John Wanamaker prize. He returned to Belgium in 1909. Beginning in 1914, Cambier spent the next 19 years in the United Kingdom. In 1923, he became a member of the North British Academy of Arts.
