Arthur Herbert Buckland

Arthur Herbert Buckland was born in Taunton, England. Buckland studied at the Royal College of Art and at the Académie Julian in Paris. He was a painter of portraits, landscapes, romantic subjects and was also a prolific illustrator. He contributed illustrations to The Pall Mall Magazine, The Windsor Magazine, Illustrated London News, and The Quiver. He also illustrated a number of children’s and adventure books. Buckland exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolors, as well as in Paris at the Salon de Artists Français.
“Boy in the Moon” is one of Buckland’s most recognized works, and the boy is often referred to as Peter Pan.
