Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville

French (1852-1941)

Born in 1852 in Paris, France, Arthur Alfred Brunel de Neuville was known mainly for his still lifes and paintings of animals, especially cats. Brunel de Neuville studied fine art with his father, a well-known teacher of landscape and still-life painting in Paris. In 1879, at the age of twenty-seven, he exhibited his first painting at the Salon de Paris.  That first year, he presented a piece entitled Pommes et raisin, and then in 1880 showed his Halte de chasse, a scene of frolicking kittens. From 1889 to 1909 he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais. His works are in the museums at Beziers, Brest, Chateau Thierry and Louviers.
