George M. Bruestle
American (1871-1939)
Born in New York City in 1871, Impressionist painter George Bruestle studied at the Art Students League in New York and Academie Julian in Paris. One of the Old Lyme Art Colony’s earliest Impressionist painters, Bruestle was also a member of the Society of American Artists, National Arts Club, Allied Artists of America, Salmagundi Club, Lotos Club and Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts.
Bruestle exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Institute, Corcoran Gallery, Lyme Art Association, National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Paris Salon of 1895. His works are held in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Butler Institute of American Art, Florence Griswold Museum and San Diego Museum of Art.
