Christian Aleth Bjorn
American (1859-1945)
Christian Aleth Bjørn was born in Copenhagen in 1859. He studied at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen in the 1880s and subsequently spent several years in Turkey painting along the Bosphorus. After completing a commission of painted tapestries for industrialist, Otto Mønsted, in Copenhagen, he emigrated to the United States in 1900 and made a living painting tapestries there. He later resumed marine painting and, in 1932, had a large exhibition with the well-known American marine painter, Gordon Grant. Bjorn exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists.
