George Ames Aldrich
American (1872-1941)
George Ames Alrich (1872-1941) was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, but spent the majority of his career working in Chicago, Illinois after studying at the Art Students League, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a number of Parisian institutions. Aldrich gained early experience in the art business as an illustrator for the London Times and Punch Magazine in the early 1890s. He continued his work in the United States and won many prizes from his regular participation in Chicago art shows during the 1920s and `30s. Throughout his career, Aldrich traveled and studied extensively in Europe, painting in Normandy and Brittany in 1909-1910, attending the American Academy in Rome in 1924, and earning a scholarship at the Fontainebleau School of Fine Arts.
