Louis Emile Adan
French (1839-1937)
Born in 1839 in Paris, Adan was a painter of landscapes and still lifes as well as an accomplished watercolorist and illustrator. He was a student of Frncois Picot and Alexandrew Cabanel at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. During his long life, he exhibited at all the Paris Salons, beginning in 1863 until his death in 1937. His entries earned him a number of medals, including a third place medal in 1875, a second place medal in 1882 and a gold medal in 1889. He was made Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur in 1892, and was awarded the Prix Bonnati in 1931. His works are in the collections of the French museums in Alecon, Lyon, Paris, Rouen and Saint-Etienne.
